Michaela Streitfield started at DBMS as Girls’ Varsity Coach in March of 2014 and took over as Director of Jr. Rowing in the Fall of that year. Streitfield’s background in rowing includes scholastic, NCAA Division I, and international competition.
Streitfield was recruited to the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, after 4 years of rowing at Mount Vernon High School in Alexandria, VA. She spent her time at UMass under Jim Dietz and Laura Simon on the varsity team and in her senior year, lead the team as co-captain. Streitfield spent her summers in Amherst training and competing in small boat classes (1x/2x/2-), gaining technical instruction in sculling. By the end of her senior year, she had been awarded the A-10 Conference 2nd All Team Award in both 2012 and 2013. She graduated from UMass with a degree in Kinesiology in 2013
While at UMass, some of Michaela’s most notable races include:
- Dad Vail Regatta 2013 – 2nd place Women’s Varsity 8+
- Dad Vail Regatta 2012 – 1st place Women’s Varsity 2-
- Knecht Cup 2012/2013 – 1st Place Women’s Varsity 2-
- Head of the Oklahoma 2012 – 1st place Women’s Open 4x
- 3rd place Women’s Collegiate 1x
- USRowing Club Nationals 2012 – 6th Place Women’s Senior 2-
Streitfield then went on to represent the United States on the US Maccabiah team at the 2013 Maccabiah Games in Israel. While abroad, she won gold in the Women’s 2x and Women’s 4x events.
She has spent the past two summers working with the US Junior Women’s National team. First as an RA in the summer of 2014 and as an assistant coach for the USJWNT Development Team in 2015.
Streitfield owes much of her success to the high expectations that were held of the athletes while at UMass. She continues that philosophy at DBMS at the high school level and makes sure her athletes are educated on what it takes to row beyond high school. After taking over as Director of Junior Rowing in the fall of 2014, Michaela strives for a cohesive coaching staff and a competitive and successful team.
