High School Crew off to a Fast Start
The DBMS High School Racing Team is officially off to a fast start this year. Starting in early March, the rowers were already training hard for their spring season to get in shape for the indoor rowing competition at the Duxbury Elementary School gym. Parents and spectators came to watch the athletes race each other and the clock by rowing a grueling 2000m race. It was an exciting day with 29 of 58 rowers posting personal records. Congratulations to all the winners: Alex Porter (Boys Varsity), Amanda Doolin (Girls Varsity), Nick Mulone (Boys Novice) and Sarah Hunter (Girls Novice). Some of the dads caught the rowing bug and jumped on to compete with Paul Kosharek (Alex’s Dad!) besting all the fathers with a 7:43.8 time. A special thanks to the Schmitt & De Deyne Families for their generous donation of coffee, donuts, drinks and other treats to raise money for the team. Also we couldn’t have done it without Mary Fran Grossman, official timekeeper and referee! Other hands on deck to help out were Amy Demos, Diane Desmery and Monica Porter.
DBMS Crew has already tied their feet in and pushed off the docks to compete in the Essex Regatta on the Merrimack River and the Bromfield Regatta on Bare Hill Pond in Harvard MA. Both days were successful with great races and beautiful weather. We are looking forward to the Lowell Invitational, the 8 in 1 Regatta on Cape Cod and the State Championships on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester.
