New Junior Maritime Association

The Duxbury Bay Junior Maritime Association is a new student run group at the Maritime School. This winter, a committee of three junior rowers and five junior sailors, under the supervision of Mike Collins, was formed. The mission of the Duxbury Junior Maritime Association is “to provide opportunities for junior rowers and sailors of all abilities to promote access, awareness, participation, and fun both on and off the water.” The committee met regularly this past winter and will continue to work hard during this spring and summer. They just completed their first fundraiser, a raffle in conjunction with the DBMS holiday sale. Many great gifts were raffled including a DBMS vest, and a $250 scholarship toward a DBMS summer 2008 junior sailing or rowing program. The raffle raised more than $1500 for the scholarship fund at DBMS.

The group anticipates being able to open up membership to the Association this coming summer. They plan to organize movie nights, fundraisers, community service opportunities, and other activities for juniors.
