Team Race Invite at DBMS

On Sunday, October 5th DBMS hosted a team race invite. We had one team from Mass: Marblehead High School (MHS); and three teams from the Portland, ME area: Cape Elizabeth High School (CEHS), Southern Maine High School (SMHS) and Falmouth High School (FHS). From Duxbury we put in two teams one under the name of Duxbury High School (DHS) and one under Duxbury Bay Maritime School (DBMS) for a total of 6 teams in a 3 vs 3 boat team race format.

The regatta was scheduled to start at 1:00, however, due to a lack of breeze we were forced to postpone for 30 minutes. At that time, the weather forecast was spot on calling for overcast skies and a light 0 – 5 knot Southwesterly breeze that would clocked to the South East. The winds were variable and at 3 pm after 8 races were completed the breeze failed and we went into on-the-water postponement for another 30 minutes. The breeze finally filled in and we were able to complete the 15 race rotation.

The team racing was great and all the competitors upheld superb sportsmanship. Three protests were filed and all protests were disallowed resulting in no disqualifications. Congratulations to the Duxbury High School team for winning the event with a perfect 5 -0 record. Here are the overall results:

DHS 5 – 0, SMHS 4 – 1, MHS 3 – 2, DBMS 2 - 3, FHS 1 – 4, CEHS 0 - 5
