Everyone here at DBMS is ecstatic to announce the release of our new courses for Summer 2015!

From interacting with marine life to experiencing the bay via water sports, we are sure that you will enjoy all of the new courses that we have to offer. We are specifically pleased to offer three courses that last between 4.5-5.5 hours on the bay for the student who is looking to conquer the high seas! Each combination class blends two maritime activities that perfectly complement each other. These new courses provide the ultimate full day experience on Duxbury Bay!

Please note, each class is only offered 3 times during the summer and has very limited space. Sign up quickly so you don’t lose your spot!

Land and Sea

Our junior Open Bic sailing and ecology exploration programs are joining forces to create a one-of-a-kind week long experience for students. Each day will consist of 2.5 hours of Open Bic sailing, a 1.5 hour “recess” for students to refuel on the DBMS lawn, and 1.5 hours ecology lesson around Duxbury bay.

Open Bic sailing is an excellent way for junior sailors who prefer sailing solo to explore the bay. The ecology classes will differ each day and cover a variety of interesting marine life topics, such as lobsters, oysters, shellfish, and salt marsh exploration. This combination class is sure to be a huge hit!

Ages:10-13
Prerequisites: Opti II or above and recommendation to advance
Requirements: Competent swimmer

Board and Boat

Our Junior SUP & Catamaran programs are joining forces to create a 4.5 hours a day, week long program. Each day will consist of a 1.5 hour SUP outing, a half hour “recess” where students can refuel on the DBMS lawn, and 2.5 hours on the catamaran.

This course is a great way to experience the bay on many levels. While paddle boarding, students may travel under the Bluefish River bridge, play water games at the Shipyard Lane dock or simply explore the marsh areas in search of sea creatures.

The catamaran is perfect for students who are not interested in pursuing racing but still want to sail. The Hobie Getaway catamaran is fast and fun with a spinnaker and a great way to tour the bay quickly while flying an A-symmetrical spinnaker.

Ages:12-17
Prerequisites: None
Requirements: Competent swimmer

Mast and Paddle

Our Open Bic and Junior Kayaking programs are joining together to create a 4.5 hours a day, week long program. Each day will consist of 2.5 hours sailing the Open Bics, a half hour “recess”  for students to refuel on the DBMS lawn, and a 1.5 hour kayaking adventure. This is a great way for our younger water enthusiasts to explore Duxbury Bay.

Students will have a blast sailing around the bay with the Open Bic. It is a fast modern boat designed for sailors who prefer sailing by themselves. It should also prove to be challenging enough to enhance their sailing techniques.

Kayaking will give students the opportunity to explore areas of the bay that other boats rarely get to use. Every day will be a new adventure whether it be traveling under the Bluefish River bridge, checking out sea creatures and plants up close, or playing at the Shipyard Lane dock.
