Sailors from other sailing organizations should contact DBMS before registering to make sure they meet the requirements for the class.

This class is designed for students looking to get more experience sailing and is a great option for an Opti sailor looking to get on the water before summer!

Sailors are recommended to wear non-cotton warm athletic wear along with a windbreaker, closed toed shoes, and a lifejacket.

Tue & Thur After School

Ages: 10 to 13 Prerequisites: For sailors who have taken the Opti 2 program or higher (or equivalent) Requirements: Competent Swimmer

This course is for students to learn basic boat handling and racing techniques. They will also learn how to properly set up on-water drills and focus on tuning their boats properly. A great option for an Opti sailor looking to get a few more days on the water before Summer!

Generally the water is very cold during the first few weeks of spring, sailors are recommended to wear spray gear, wetsuits or drysuits once the water temperature reaches 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Closed toed shoes and lifejackets are required for all sailors.

Mon & Fri After School

Ages: 12-15 Prerequisites: Must have completed a sailing class at DBMS or equivalent Requirements: Competent Swimmer / Sailor must weigh at least 105 lbs

This is an opportunity for students to learn basic boat handling and racing techniques. They will also learn how to properly set up on-water drills and focus on tuning their boats properly. No trapeze or spinnakers will be used as this course is designed to prep sailors for HS Sailing. The sailors will be sailing 420’s. The boat that is sailed by the High School Sailing Team.
