Knots and Nautical Crafts

Ages: 7 – 9 years old as of August 31, 2025

Prerequisites: None

Set sail on a fun-filled adventure in this hands-on classroom course designed for young mariners ages 7–9! Over multiple sessions, budding sailors will master essential sailing knots—like the bowline, figure-eight, and cleat hitch—through playful games and step-by-step practice with colorful ropes. At interactive stations, kids will explore navigation basics using simple charts and compasses, discover how wind powers sails with mini wind experiments, and decode the colorful language of signal flags to send secret messages. Each session blends knot-tying challenges with creative nautical crafts, fostering curiosity, and a love for the sea—all in a supportive, land-based setting that prepares little captains for future on-water adventures! The DBMS Van will pick up from Chandler School at 3:25.

Tactics and Rigging

Ages: 10 – 14 years old as of August 31, 2025

Prerequisites: Opti Fundamentals, 420 Fundamentals

Crafted for 10–14-year-old sailors eager to dive into the world of competitive sailing. Through engaging lessons, interactive discussions, and hands-on models, participants will learn the essentials of the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), rigging fundamentals, and race-day strategies to build confidence for Opti or C420 events. Designed to spark excitement and prepare young sailors for on-water racing, this program fosters critical thinking, teamwork, and a passion for competitive sailing in a supportive classroom setting.

Strategy and Boatspeed

Ages: 13 – 19 years old as of August 31, 2025

Prerequisites: None

Gear up for the spring NESSA season with this intensive three-session clinic designed for high school sailors (grades 8–12) focused on mastering Strategy & Boatspeed in C420s. Held indoors at Duxbury Bay Maritime School on three February evenings each session dives deep into race-winning techniques. This classroom-based clinic blends chalk talks, hands-on rigging stations, and peer debriefs to sharpen mental edge and boat-handling precision. Drysuits not required; bring a notebook and a competitive mindset!
