Sailing Race Coach Opti/420
DBMS is looking for race coaches that can manage and expand our sailors’ development pathway through curriculum and course planning. Key responsibilities will include: Managing practice 5 days a week over an 8 week season and maintaining effective communication between the Sailing Director, parents and sailors. Coaches will need to travel to regattas (6-8 a season) with sailors which includes trailering sailboats and support boats. Additionally, all coaches must perform routine equipment and fleet maintenance. Race coaches must be US Sailing Level 1 Instructor Certified before starting in their role and have collegiate race experience (or similar). Candidates will be required to complete First Aid, CPR, AED, SafeSport and HeadsUp certifications. Candidates must be over 18 years of age and have Sailing Instructor experience.
Lead Sailing Instructor
As a part-time summer Lead Instructor you will be a role model and teacher for youth sailors and other instructors. Lead Instructors will work with a specific age group (5-9, 10-12, or 13+) and will coordinate and assist other instructors on the water. Duties include but are not limited to writing lesson plans, driving a safety launch/Coach Boat, cleaning and repairing equipment, supervising students on the water and most importantly – keeping your students and fellow instructors safe. Lead Instructors may also assist the Sailing Director with administrative functions and planning. Lead Instructors must be US Sailing Level 1 Instructor Certified before starting in their role. Candidates will be required to complete First Aid, CPR, AED, SafeSport, and Heads Up certifications.* Candidates must be over 18 and have Sailing Instructor experience.

Sailing Aide
As a part-time summer Sailing Aide, you will develop your abilities to teach, lead, and inspire the next generation of sailors. Duties include but are not limited to supervising students on the water and most importantly – keeping your students and fellow instructors safe. Act as an extra set of hands on the water, oversee the drop off/dismissal of the sailing program daily, and generally help to maintain order. Candidates will be required to complete First Aid, CPR, AED certification.
Accessail Skipper
As a part-time summer Accessail Skipper you will work on a tidal schedule to ensure safe operation of our 22 foot Marshall Cat sailboats for participants with varying physical and cognitive abilities. Duties include but are not limited to sailing, aiding participants with embarking and disembarking vessels and equipment management. All Skippers must be First Aid, CPR/AED, Heads-Up, and safesport certified before the start of programs. Ideal candidates are over 18 and have experience sailing vessels larger than 20 feet.
Accessail Crew
Crew members will assist with customer hospitality, transfers to vessel, rigging, docking. All crew must be First Aid, CPR and AED certified.* Ideal candidates are over 18 and have a basic understanding and knowledge of sailing.
Summer Marine Science Instructor
As a part-time summer Marine Science Instructor you will be a role model and instructor for youth from preschool through high school ages. Instructors collaborate with other staff and program directors to design and implement innovative and fun marine science offerings. Duties include driving vans and motorboats, supervising lab activities, and teaching age-specific lessons. Instructors must have an interest in Marine Science and have prior teaching experience. Applicants will be required to complete First Aid, CPR, AED, and SafeSport certifications before the start of programs.*
Marine Science Field Trip Instructor
As a part-time Marine Science Field Trip Instructor, you will teach pre-planned lessons for students in Grades K-6. Instructors will be responsible for groups of 15-25 students. Applicants must be comfortable working outdoors and on or around boats. Applicants must complete First Aid, CPR, AED, and SafeSport certifications before starting in the role.* Instructors must be over 18 years old, be passionate about Marine Science, and have prior teaching experience. Ideal candidates have a degree or are pursuing a degree in education or marine science (or related fields).
Marine Science Instructor for Off-Season Programs (Sept-May)
As a part-time Marine Science Instructor you will be a role model and instructor for youth in grades K-5. Instructors or aides (applicants under the ages of 16) will work with our lead marine science educator to teach after school and vacation day programs to students in grades K-5. Duties include supervising lab activities, and teaching age-specific lessons. Instructors must have an interest in Marine Science, have prior experience working with kids, and be available during after school hours. Instructors will have the opportunity to earn additional hours running marine science field trips for kids ages 2-10 years old. Applicants will be required to complete First Aid, CPR, AED, and SafeSport certifications.*
High School Rowing- Girls Novice Coach
We are currently looking for a high school Novice coach for the 2023-2024 school year. The team practices 5-6 days a week; weekdays in the afternoons and Saturday mornings, with 4-6 weekend regattas. Salary and benefits will be based on availability and experience. Salary starts at $20/hour.
On-campus housing opportunities are available for coaching candidates interested in taking on an expanded role at DBMS in our rowing, marine science or other programs. A year-round commitment is required to be considered for housing.
We have additional paid coaching opportunities available for youth and adult athletes during the winter, opportunities to coach recreational or competitive adult rowers year-round, as well as potential summer employment with our recreational and competitive youth programs.

Adult Rowing Coach
DBMS is looking for experienced rowers/coaches to coach for our Adult Rowing Program. We can train experienced rowers to coach our team of recreational master rowers. As an instructor you will be responsible for implementing the course curriculum during classes. This includes teaching proper rowing technique to individuals at all levels of proficiency. In addition to our recreational classes we are looking for coaches with experience at the higher level for our Masters Competitive Rowing Program. These rowers meet early mornings to improve technique and train for regattas. Teaching takes place in the tanks, on the ergs, and on the water. Launch Driver
Launch Drivers at DBMS are critical to the success of our summer junior programs, events, and community outreach. Launch drivers are expected to act as role models and instructors to all young participants in sailing, marine science, kayaking, DBA, and other programs. Duties include driving launches to pick up and deliver sailing students to their respective floats, maintaining motorboats and other equipment, performing maintenance duties on campus, teaching power boating lessons, and adhering to all safety standards set by the USCG and DBMS. Launch Drivers must have their USCG Approved Limited Master (Launch Tender) License and be 18 years of age or older. Candidates will be required to complete First Aid, CPR, AED, and SafeSport certifications before the start of programs.*
USCG Licensed Captain (Powerboating Instructor)
New this year, we are hiring USCG Licensed Captains – 6 Pack and up, for teaching group and private power boating lessons for children and adults. Instructors are expected to follow a DBMS defined curriculum of both low and high speed maneuvers. Courses are taught using DBMS provided vessels. Most group classes are four hours for two days (Mon – Tues, or Wed – Thur) and private lessons are typically two hours in length. There is flexibility in the scheduling of private lessons. Additional hours are available for special events such as weddings. Applicants must have current USCG Credentials, and will be required to complete First Aid, CPR, AED, and SafeSport certifications before the start of lessons.
Maritime Adventures Instructor
As a part time Maritime Adventures Instructor you will be a role model and guide for students visiting from local community groups. Instructors will work in teams to instruct groups of 10-20 kids (aged 8-16). Participants will take part in exploration of the sand flats, sailing, and paddlesports. Responsibilities include, sailing or navigating in a variety of vessels, running on and off the water marine education, supervising low tide activities, and most importantly keeping your students safe. We require all Instructors to complete First Aid, CPR and AED, SafeSport, motor boating safety before the start of programs.* Candidates under 18 without a US Sailing Level 1 Instructor certification* will be considered.
