Learn To Row
Come explore, meet new people and try something new. This class is offered to those who would like to row and ultimately explore Duxbury Bay in a team boat or join our singles program in the spring. In our Rowing Center, with access to our state of the art equipment, you will learn the basics of good rowing form and blade technique with the use of the ergometer and rowing tanks. You will not be disappointed!
Rowing Tank Classes
Wednesday evenings 6:00-7:00pm
Our small group tank class of 8 scullers/rowers runs for one hour in the state-of-the-art Rowing Center. Each participant focuses on technical development through a progression of drills and steady state rowing. The opportunity to be filmed and projected on the large screen (while you row) is an incredible teaching tool for our coaches and a comprehensive learning tool for our participants. The tank classes are ideal for athletes of all ages from beginner to experienced, to explore and expand on your technical proficiency in a safe and controlled environment.
Tank and Erg Combo Classes
Our tank and erg class runs for one hour and is a structured class for both novice and experienced rowers. Classes consist of stretching, warm up, steady state or speed drills on the erg to improve your rowing technique and endurance. The 30 minute erg session will be combined with a tank class of specific drills for different technique work. Come enjoy a combo class to get both an endurance and technique workout.
Erg and Strength/Fitness Classes
We are excited to offer a new class with Dr. Daniel Orr, Physical Therapist and Strength and Conditioning Specialist. This one hour class is designed to be challenging and engaging for anyone from first-timers to experienced rowers. Participants will perform rowing/erg intervals for time, distance and/or stroke rate (don’t worry if you don’t know what that means!) combined with targeted strength training off the erg for key rowing muscle groups (think shoulders, core, hips and legs). Rowing pieces will keep you and your body guessing with a mix of shorter, high intensity distances and more medium, endurance based distances for a complete workout. Each class will have a strong emphasis on form, both on and off the erg, to promote strength development and injury prevention.
Indoor ergometer rowing is a great low impact training option for athletes of any level. Join a one hour class on the rowing machines and enjoy the benefits of a full body workout. Classes consist of stretching, warm up, steady-state intervals and drills to improve your rowing technique and endurance. Workouts can be modified to match each participant’s ability and fitness level. Stay healthy this winter and enjoy the benefits of training with one of our experienced coaches.
Competitive Rowing Winter Training
This 1.5 hr class is a winter training option at a higher level for those experienced rowers interested in competing. The class is structured with an emphasis on training for the C.R.A.S.H. – B World Indoor Rowing Championships. This class will have a training erg workout posted on the board. Coached tank sessions will focus on rowing with a purpose, in recognizing that every stroke serves as an opportunity to move the boat more efficiently and faster. Class size will be limited to accommodate the training requirements for racing.
Competitive Rowing Winter Tank Class
This small group tank class of 8 scullers/rowers runs for one hour and will focus on expanding technical proficiency and fitness through a series of drills and rate work for experienced rowers interested in competing.
