Recreational Sailing | Quest Adventures

Ages: 7 – 12 years old as of August 31, 2026

Prerequisites: Competent Swimmer

Quest Adventures is tailored for both new and returning sailors, grouped 3-5 per boat, who will navigate the bay aboard our RS Quest under the watchful guidance of a skilled instructor in a coach boat. It offers a unique opportunity to explore the bay and visit local landmarks while learning about navigation and seamanship.

Recreational Sailing | Opti Afterschool

Ages: 10 – 12 years old as of August 31, 2026

Prerequisites: Competent Swimmer

This course will focus on developing fundamental skills, with an emphasis on understanding the basics of sailing rules, boat handling, and racecourse navigation.Participants will engage in structured practice sessions, where they will learn the rules of racing, practice starts, and improve their boat handling skills in a controlled environment.

Private Lesson

Prerequisites: Competent Swimmer

Looking for personalized instruction tailored to your child’s experience and goals? Our Private Junior Sailing Lessons offer one-on-one or small-group coaching with a DBMS instructor, perfect for beginners looking to build confidence, intermediate sailors seeking focused skill development, or advanced racers working on strategy and technique.

Lessons are taught aboard a variety of boats including Prams, Optis, Quests, and 420s, based on the sailor’s age, size, and interest. Whether it’s learning the basics, mastering a maneuver, or preparing for a regatta, our instructors will meet each sailor where they are and help chart a course for growth on the water.

Middle School 420

Ages: 12 – 15 years old as of August 31, 2026

Prerequisites: Competent Swimmer

Our program for 7th and 8th grade students, sailing as both Skipper and Crew in the 420, a collaborative two-person boat, students learn essential skills like sail trim, body positioning, and teamwork. This hands-on experience helps them develop a strong foundation for success in high school racing and beyond. By mastering these foundational skills and understanding the importance of teamwork and communication on the water, students are prepared to excel in more advanced racing levels and build a lifelong passion for sailing.

DHS Varsity Sailing Team

Ages: 13 – 19 years old as of August 31, 2026

Prerequisites: Open to Duxbury HS students in the 9th-12th grade, Competent Swimmer

The Duxbury Dragons Varsity Sailing Team, representing Duxbury High School, is a competitive squad training on the water at Duxbury Bay Maritime School (DBMS) after school, Monday through Friday, from 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM. Competing in the Massachusetts Bay League (mblsailing.org) and New England Schools Sailing Association (nessa.hssailing.org), the Dragons race on weekdays and weekends, tackling local and regional regattas.Sailors must equip themselves with a drysuit, Coast Guard Type II PFD, closed-toe shoes, and a digital watch.

DHS Junior Varsity Sailing Team

Ages: 12 – 16 years old as of August 31, 2026

Prerequisites: Open to Duxbury Public School students in the 8th-10th grade, Competent Swimmer

The Duxbury Dragons JV Sailing Team offers 8th–10th graders  real race experience in C420s alongside upper-class teammates. JV focuses on skill development, fleet racing fundamentals, and progression to Varsity while offering the opportunity to compete in the Massachusetts Bay League.  Practices: Tuesday–Friday 3:30–6:00 PM at DBMS— Required gear: drysuit, USCG Type II PFD, closed-toe shoes, digital watch.

Spring High School Race Series

Ages: 12 – 18 years old as of August 31, 2026

Prerequisites: Competent Swimmer

Get race-sharp and finish the school year strong with the DBMS Spring Race Series – Saturdays in May and June on Duxbury Bay. Open to all current and incoming high school sailors (grades 7–12), this coached series  short-course racing fleet racing, Perfect for JV sailors chasing their first podium or anyone wanting extra reps before summer travel teams.  Required gear: drysuit/wetsuit, PFD, closed-toe shoes, digital watch.
