DBMS CREW CAPTURES SEVEN MEDALS AT NEW ENGLAND HIGH SCHOOL & JUNIOR ROWING CHAMPIONSHIPS
The DBMS rowing team medaled in seven of their nine events at the 8th annual New England High School & Junior Rowing Championships on October 8th. Competing in breezy and rainy conditions on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, the DBMS crews captured three gold, three silver and one bronze medal on the day.
“Today was an outstanding team performance across the board,” said DBMS Head Coach Oli Rosenbladt. “From the Novice team up through the Varsity crews, all DBMS boats performed strongly today, it was great to see our solid week of practice reflected in the racing.”
Gold medals were captured by the Boys Novice Four of Aaron Wang, Will Rubin, Michael O’Sullivan, Phil Fassnacht and coxswain Nick Rubin, who was DBMS’ only double medalist on the day, also capturing a silver in the Boys 2nd Varsity Four. The Boys 3rd Varsity Four of Paul O’Neil, Henry Figler, Ben Sullivan, Jack McArdle and coxswain Jack O’Malley also finished first, as did the Girls 3rd Varsity Four of Bridget Curran, Sarah Glinski, Deirdre Sullivan, Tara Curran and coxswain Emma Collins.
The Boys 2nd Varsity and Girls 1st and 2nd Varsity Four both captured silver medals, and the Girls Novice Eight took bronze to round out the medal count.
“All crews improved from last week and are rowing with better technique at higher ratings,” said Girls Varsity Head Coach Betsy Davenport. “The successful finishes in every varsity category clearly shows the depth of talent on the team.”
