Members of the DBMS Crew Team received exciting news this week! For rowers keen on racing in the fall season, the Head of The Charles Regatta is a highly competitive race. Crews selected to compete have the opportunity to participate in the largest two-day regatta in the world. This year, adult members of the DBMS Crew were selected from a lottery to compete in the Directors Challenge Quad. The high school team got bids in the Women’s Youth Four, Women’s Youth Eight and the Men’s Youth Eight.
Perhaps one of the most ecstatic athletes to compete is Matt Sullivan of the “Team Sullivan” boat pictured above. Coached by Dan McDonald, Team Sullivan is comprised of Mike Sullivan and his two sons Kevin and Matt. Matt, a freshmen at the Perkins School, is in his second year of the sport and is not about to let being blind interfere with his drive to compete. Come October, Matt will race in the Mixed Inclusion Doubles event, first race Sunday morning of Head of The Charles weekend. Matt will sit stroke seat with DBMS rower, Hugh Spurway, seated in the bow seat. Hugh will be responsible for steering down the race course while Matt sets the rhythm from the stroke seat.
Such a large contingent of athletes participating in the 53rd Head of The Charles will certainly benefit from an even larger cheering section. Stay tuned for details on where you may join DBMS Crew fans on the banks of the Charles River!
