Boys’ Varsity Head Coach

Shannon joined the DBMS Crew staff in the spring of 2014 after filling multiple roles with Duxbury Bay Maritime School (DBMS), including helping to found the Stand Up Paddleboarding program.  Her initial role with the crew team was as a land trainer and then moved up to assist with the water training for both the Boys’ and Girls’ Varsity teams.  In the Fall of 2014 she became the Head Boys’ Varsity Coach.

Having grown up as a student-athlete, from a young age I had the chance to be coached and mentored by many people.  Being given the opportunity to coach young athletes is something I very much enjoy.   On or off the water, I see it as an opportunity to bring out the best in those around me, like so many did for me.

Shannon’s coaching philosophy starts with the belief that rowing is a perfect vehicle to teach young athletes confidence and self-reliance. With her junior and collegiate-level athletic background, Shannon is familiar with the work required to reach individual and team goals and strives to help her rowers to push through mental as well as physical boundaries. Her high standards are based on the belief that every athlete she coaches deserves a chance to reach their highest potential.

During the Fall 2014 season, the team’s efforts were rewarded with many strong finishes:
The Boys’ Varsity 4+ earned 3rd at NE Regionals;  At the MPSRA Fall State Championship, the Boys’ 1st Varsity 4+ earned 2nd while the Boys’ 2nd Varsity 4+ earned 3rd;  The Boys’ Varsity 4+ finished 1st at both the Head of the Merrimack Regatta and at the Merrimack Chase.

In addition to her dedication to the sport of rowing, she is a competitive runner, avid paddleboarder and photographer.
